First East Texas New Year's baby born in Longview

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV)-

A Gilmer couple becomes the first in East Texas to add a new member to their family, with the first baby of 2012. At 4:06 this morning 6-pound-15-ounce Gisselle Paxcle Cruz came into the world at Good Shepherd medical center, the first in East Texas but not something that her parents planned.

"No it wasn't planned my due date was supposed to be January 4th but I started feeling contractions yesterday night," says mother Teresa Cruz.

After a 5 hour labor, Gisselle would wait no longer.

"The contractions were every 20 minutes then every 10 minutes then they said they were going to put me on medicine," Teresa says.

Its the couples third child and in the moment of truth, when the baby arrived, dad fainted.

"I tried to do everything I could to help her, but ended up fainting when the baby came," says father Pedro Cruz.

"I feel happy and excited and of course I feel better," says Teresa.

But all said and done, the couple is happy they have a healthy new daughter.

"I give thanks to god for her," Teresa says.

Gisselle was one of two new years babies born at Good Shepherd medical center today.
