DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) ? Danica Patrick's day started at the front of the pack. It ended with another frustrating wreck.

After starting from the pole position in Saturday's Nationwide Series race at Daytona International Speedway, Patrick was caught in a crash when JR Motorsports teammate Cole Whitt nudged her rear bumper and sent her spinning into the wall.

Patrick vented her frustration on the radio with her team immediately after the wreck, then acknowledged after the race that she wanted an explanation.

"I don't think it's ever great when teammates come together," Patrick said. "So we'll have to figure out what happened and move forward."

Whitt said he didn't mean to wreck Patrick, saying the incident was a result of the bumper-to-bumper style of racing at Daytona.

"Yeah, I think we'll be fine," Whitt said. "I wouldn't expect her to be happy about it. I wouldn't be happy about it, either. I don't know why anyone would expect her to be like, 'Oh yeah, it's great.' We're teammates. We want our teams to win. That's why we're trying to push each other anyways. We want to get our team up front together."

Patrick eventually got back into the race after her crew made extensive repairs to her car in the garage area. She finished 38th in a wreck-filled race that was won by James Buescher.

Patrick began the 300-mile event up front after becoming the first woman to win a NASCAR pole position since Shawna Robinson in 1994. She led at the start, spent the first part of the race in the top 10 before getting shuffled out of the draft and falling deeper in the field before the tap by Whitt.

"Well, we were just doing big pack racing and went down into (Turn) 3, got a little tap, got a little bit sideways, saved it, and then just got hit again and couldn't save it," Patrick said. "You guys saw the rest from there."

Whitt said he just was trying to tandem draft.

"I got ahold of her in the corner, and that's probably what turned her around," Whitt said. "I got to her back bumper at the wrong spot at the wrong time, you know? So that's about it."

Crew chief Tony Eury Jr. didn't think the incident would be a problem for the team.

"It's unfortunate," Eury said. "He got into her at the wrong place, and that's the way it happens. It's no big deal. Her and Cole can talk about it. It's no hard feelings. We're all a team here."

Eury said Patrick was doing a good job in the draft early on.

"I was really happy with where she was at," Eury said. "I wish we'd got to run some more and see what she had at the end because I think she's really got something for these guys."

Patrick said she was particularly frustrated because her car was so fast ? even when she was running by herself behind two cars that had teamed up to form a high-speed drafting tandem.

"It was so fast," Patrick said. "I could keep up to tandem cars in front of me all by myself. And it's so frustrating when you have one of those kinds of cars, because there are other days where you don't have that kind of a car, nobody seems to manage to find your bumper ever. It's very frustrating when you've got a really fast car. Tony Jr. obviously gave me a car that sat on the pole. I thought it was a lot of fun and quite chaotic up until then. But hopefully the fans were entertained."

Patrick also has points to worry about now that she's running full-time in Nationwide.

"Every race matters, every point matters, which is why we got out there again," Patrick said. "But there are so many other days where your car isn't perfect, or isn't great, or isn't super-fast, and nothing happens to you. And you think, 'Why, on the days when I have a really fast car, does it have to happen today?' But it did, and we'll move on."

Patrick, a former IndyCar star who made the jump to NASCAR, also crashed on the final lap of a qualifying race for the Daytona 500 on Thursday. Much like Saturday's accident, that one wasn't her fault.

With her first Daytona 500 start looming Sunday, she doesn't have time to dwell on the wrecks.

"Obviously, we've got the Daytona 500 tomorrow, my first time," Patrick said. "And I can't dwell on today. I need to buckle down and focus, I need to get ready for tomorrow for the big day. And hopefully we have a better day."

That's an uncommonly high number, and one that has a Columbia doctor and his patients spreading the word about this rare disease.

86 year old George Bacalakis of Columbia runs a thriving internet business selling his artwork. But now, he must add appointments for chemotherapy to his schedule. When he found a lump on his side last fall, the diagnosis of cancer was shocking. It was the first time he had cancer. The second shock came when he found out it was a breast cancer that had spread.

"They said I want you to consider having a complete mastectomy and of course being a man I thought to myself, what is this, are they joking?"

After the surgery, and removal and testing of 8 lymph nodes, Bacalakis says he is now cancer free.

Bacalakis didn't feel a lump in his breast, but another patient, JR Renick of Jefferson City did. His doctors were not concerned until it grew.

"It started kind of small, about the size of a quarter," remembers Renick. "By the time they noticed it and sent me for a mammogram, it was like two silver dollars on top of each other, that's how large it got."

Like most men, Renick never thought it could be cancer.

"Most men come in and say, 'I had no idea I could get breast cancer. I had no idea that this hard lump underneath my breast that was growing was a cancer," says Dr. Paul Dale, Medical Director at Ellis Fischel.

Dr. Dale says typically a cancerous lump is behind the nipple and yes, it can be detected with a mammogram or ultrasound. Like in women, doctors also can biopsy the suspicious lump.

But Dr. Dale is quick to point out that not all lumps are cancerous, and in fact most are not. They are gynecomastia,?a benign condition caused by many factors. The American Cancer Society lists some medicines can cause gynecomastia, including some drugs used to treat ulcers and heartburn, high blood pressure, and heart failure.

Dr. Dale points out out one notable difference in the two conditions is that?gynecomastia can be painful, while a cancerous lump is not.

The OPERA experiment involves shooting neutrinos from CERN's facility on the French-Swiss border to INFN's Gran Sasso National Laboratory, 450 miles (732 kilometers) away. The faster-than-light finding was recorded when 15,000 neutrino beams were pumped over three years from CERN to Gran Sasson.

CERN said one of the potential effects concerned an oscillator used to provide the time stamps for GPS (Global Positioning System) synchronizations, which could have led scientists to overestimate the neutrino's time of flight.

The other effect appeared likely to be more significant in the faster-than-light finding of the original OPERA experiment.

"The second concerns the optical fiber connector that brings the external GPS signal to the OPERA master clock, which may not have been functioning correctly when the measurements were taken," said CERN. "If this is the case, it could have led to an underestimate of the time of flight of the neutrinos."

Physicists had long suspected that some experimental flaw was behind the faster-than-light results but could not put their finger on it ? until now. "A possible explanation has been found. But we won't know until we have tested it out with a new beam to Gran Sasso," CERN spokesman James Gillies told Reuters.

When the results were first reported, OPERA team members said they had checked and rechecked the experiment for many months, looking for anything that could have produced a misreading.

A second test whose results were announced in November appeared to provide further evidence that neutrinos were traveling faster than light. But many experts remained skeptical.

University of Chicago physicist Edward Blucher said the original finding would have been breathtaking if it had been true. As it was, the research inspired many spirited discussions, if few believers.

"I don't think I met anyone who said I bet it's going to be true. I think the people on the experiment worked as carefully as they could, and I think they ran out of ideas of what could be wrong and they decided to present it," he said. "Maybe they should have waited a few more months."

So, it is nothing less than shocking that today, after more than 150 years, during which time Americans have fought and died for the right to be free from slavery, discrimination, and other forms of degrading and inhumane treatment, we bear witness to the nativists? brazen attack on the Constitution?s guarantee of citizenship.

Make no mistake, the enemies of constitutional citizenship are the same folks that engineered the draconian ?Show Me Your Papers? laws in states like Arizona and Alabama. Yet while they strive to turn the clock back to 1867, when?Dred Scott?was the law of the land, they fail to cite a single credible study supporting their ill-advised position that gutting the Constitutional Citizenship Clause will fix any particular problem. The problem with apologies is that the people who apologized knowingly created the slur in the first place. They just thought they might get away with it.

It was in 1986 that I interviewed the singer Sade on my radio show in New York. Knowing that her mother is British and her father, Nigerian, I asked what I thought was a legitimate question:

Me: ?Do you consider yourself Nigerian or British??

Sade: ?I consider myself Sade?

White women were ostracized for being with black men. They were often considered to be loose or rejects. Mixed relationships are not breaking news today.

In some cases, children of these relationships were eventually embraced by their white relatives because the children were usually unavoidably adorable. Look at the President of the United States? for example. In fact, President Obama is probably the catalyst that prompted the special news report anyway. Remember such stories may be new to news people who have spent their upbringing sheltered from reality, but it?s not new to the millions of Americans who come from multi-racial families.
