While we here at Neerg are by no means health or fitness gurus, we believe Timothy Ferriss might be on the right track. In his book published last year, The 4-Hour Body: An Uncommon Guide to Rapid Fat-Loss, Incredible Sex, and Becoming Superhuman, best-selling author Timothy Ferriss lays out all the specifics for eating healthy and doing the most effective exercises with step-by-step illustrations.
We?ve all heard of practically every diet/fitness/wellness plan out there and frankly, none of them are all that appealing. The South Beach Diet, the Atkins, the Zone. The Master Cleanse? Now, that?s a definite pass for many of us! Although Ferriss readily admits that he does not possess a PhD in this subject, his arguments are backed by the scientific findings of medical doctors, professional athletes, and some of his own research. With that bit of formality out of the way, let us explore Ferriss? five rules regarding food consumption that are designed to help you shed 20 pounds in 30 days with the Slow-Carb Diet:
Rule 1. Skip ?White? Carbs
Rid your pantry of bread, pasta, rice (even the brown kind), potatoes, cereal and tortillas. The only time that you are ?allowed? to eat these white carbohydrates is within half an hour of completing a resistance-training workout. This rule seems pretty standard across most diets. Fortunately, there are organic foods and natural food alternatives. Yes, this is a tough rule to follow, as the items are fairly commonplace in our day-to-day lives ? all the more reason to be aware and avoid consumption!
Rule 2.? Eat The Same Couple Of Meals Repeatedly
The goal here is to mix and match a couple of organic and natural foods from the select lists of proteins, veggies, and legumes to make your meals. You?ll then eat the same few meals over and over and over again! It?s not very exciting, but the loss of excess weight certainly is worth the trade off! Examples include:
- Organic Proteins: egg whites, white chicken meat, black beans, beef, pork, fish;
- Organic Vegetables:? spinach, cruciferous vegetables (like broccoli, cauliflower, or Brussels sprouts) sauerkraut, asparagus, peas, green beans;
- Organic Legumes: lentils, pinto beans, red beans, soybeans.
Rule 3. Don?t Drink Calories
In order to fulfill this requirement, you will need to stick to water, unsweetened organic teas, organic coffees and fair trade coffees (with a minimal use of cream), and other no or low-calorie healthy drinks. That also means no milk, soda, or fruit juices. No one said this was going to be easy!
Rule 4. No Organic Fruits!
This may seem counter intuitive to the way most of us have been raised ? namely to eat five servings of organic fruits and organic vegetables every day. However, according to Ferriss, the fructose in fruits ? even organic fruits ? easily converts to glycerol phosphate, which aids fat storage. However, you can still eat organic tomatoes and organic avocados, which are technically organic fruits but most people confuse them as organic vegetables.
Rule 5. Have A Cheat Day.
Whew! At last a rule everyone is sure to be able to follow! After putting yourself through six days of torture a week, you?re allowed to take one day off! That?s because stuffing yourself like mad after six days of restricted caloric intake will kick your body into gear and ensure that your metabolic rate doesn?t decline. Embrace this wonderful day and go nuts! You might want to go a little easy on the Twinkies though.
We suggest you read this book yourself! It is full of unconventional methods, little known facts, and just a bunch of interesting stuff. Happy reading!
